Gregg Giusiana is currently serving as Rotary District 5170 Governor (DG). As part of his DG duties, Gregg visits all 55+ Clubs in District 5170 at least once during the year. Gregg served ten years as the Chief of Police for the City of Gilroy before retiring in 2008.
Gregg started the day by meeting with the Club's Board of Directors. President Gary Howard organized a presentation to share with Gregg what the Club has done, is doing, and plans to do in the future. Click here to see the presentation and to hear Gregg's comments about District 5170 and Rotary.
After Board meeting, Gregg joined the Club for lunch and continued to share the importance of Rotary with all the members and what District 5170 is doing and has planned. During his meeting with both the Board and the Club members, Gregg commended the Club for its outstanding efforts. He noted that the Rotary Club of Castro Valley is a "quality club...a well-seasoned Club...[a Club that] is doing everything right." When Gregg stated that the Club "is run well," President Gary noted that he is building on the great leadership that came before him as well as the active involvement of the members. DG Gregg thanked the Club for its great support of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) under the leadership of Dwight Perry.
Gregg noted that both the Rotary Internation Vision and the Four-Way Test both have 24 words. The Vision explains what Rotarians do and the Four Way Test how Rotarians do it.

The DG stressed that one of his goals is to grow Rotary and make membership meaningful, which entails more than recruiting new member. Making membership meaningful includes
- Having new members welcomed to the Club.
- Retaining current members in the Club.
- Engaging both new and current members in Club and Rotary activities.
- Having every members feel that he/she is an important part of the Club.
Anothe goal that Gregg mentioned is one that the Rotary Club of Castro Valley has been working on - Telling Rotary's Story to the Community. Rotary does a great deal of great work locally, nationally, and globally, but Rotary doesn't always do the best job of spreading the good news to the larger community.
DG Giusiana mentioned the Rotary will initiate a new area for Global Grants in 2021 - the Environment. While the environment has always been part of Global Grants, it will now have its own area to receive grant funding. He also mentioned a number of upcoming District and RI events. FInally, Gregg concluded with a moving story about a Rotary effort for a person who needed a bone marrow donation and how that effort changed him while exemplifying what Rotary is. Don't miss it.
