PROGRAM - Our program today was Wendy Winsted of the Sulfur Creek Nature Center!  Wendy, always one of our favorite speakers,

Sulphur Creek Nature Center is a wildlife education and rehabilitation facility whose mission is to promote the conservation of local environmental resources by fostering an appreciation and understanding of the animals in the world around us, and encouraging peaceful coexistence between people and native wildlife by serving as a community resource for wildlife issues.

Wendy shared that September 8 is International Vulture Day and brought a turkey vulture with her.  “Prince” injured a wing prior to coming to Sulfur Creek and cannot fly but he has a great life there.  Wendy explained why vultures with a six foot wingspan and 2.5 foot long body soar rather than fly, eat dead stuff and have a red head.

Wendy also brought us up to date on the “Owl Cam” at the Center, the fight to the death between two barn owls and the role of the pellets coughed up by the owls (down bedding for the baby owls) and more.

Another “shouldn’t have missed” this program . . . tremendous . . .
