Dear Rotarians:

I hope you are all doing well during these unprecedented times! Please see updates below along with several places that would welcome any financial contributions as many have asked where they can help those in need of support around us as we’re mostly working from within our homes.
Message from Club President Todd Anglin

Dear Rotarians:

I hope you are all doing well during these unprecedented times! Please see updates below along with several places that would welcome any financial contributions as many have asked where they can help those in need of support around us as we’re mostly working from within our homes.

Rodeo Parade/Chili Cook-off has been postponed until 2021.
After much thought and discussion, the Board of the Rotary Club of Castro Valley made the difficult decision to cancel the Chili Cook-off and Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade scheduled for this May.

“Although the Chili Cook-off and Parade have been canceled for this year, we will be back in 2021 stronger than ever!  Our Club Board as well as the Parade Board encourages all Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade participants and spectators to become involved in the 2020 Castro Valley Light Parade in November, another great Castro Valley event!  Many factors were considered including school closures and the uncertainty of participants in both events as well as staffing.  We are so proud to live and serve in Castro Valley!”

The Board has chosen to focus on how the Rotary Club of Castro Valley can positively impact the community during these challenging times.  Programs include raising funds to purchase additional masks for local health care professionals and first responders; raising funds to help feed the residents of Ruby’s Place, which provides shelter, services, and housing to survivors of human trafficking and domestic abuse; and posting their on-line meetings covering a variety of corona virus topics.

Help Eden Medical Center
Eden Medical Center is seeking help and has provided the following information for those looking to assist:

  • Eden Medical Center has acted quickly to address the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic, rapidly implementing changes that optimize our ability to care for patients, while doing everything possible to protect staff and the community. Our many efforts to ensure access to care and reduce the risk of exposure have included expanding virtual visits system-wide, opening drive-through clinics, ensuring specialized care for patients with respiratory symptoms at our facilities, and creating an online resource offering the latest information to help patients stay healthy and safe.
  • Contributions to the Area of Greatest Need Fund at Eden allow local leaders to direct resources to where our clinical care workers need it most, giving them the flexibility to respond to emerging COVID-19 challenges as they arise. To make a gift call Eden Philanthropy at 510-727-2753 or online at www.sutterhealth.org/eden-givenow or https://sutterhealth.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.event&eventID=518
  • We are accepting donations for Personal Protective Equipment. See website for more information on needs: https://www.sutterhealth.org/for-patients/health-alerts/ppe-donations
  • We currently have a wall set up for notes of encouragement from the community in case someone wants to send something.
  • Sarah Kiyoi, our Chief Nurse Officer just confirmed that we are taking donations of food delivered from restaurants like pizza places and grocers like Trader Joe’s. Fruit guys is donating fruit that would have gone to businesses that are not open anymore.

Sincerely,

Todd Anglin, President
Rotary Club of Castro Valley
