Noise Pollution
Dr. Erica Walker, Boston College
Dr. Erica Walker, a postdoctoral scholar at Boston University shared her very interesting work on noise pollution.  President Gary Howard heard her presentation on NPR and reached out to Dr. Walker and she was pleased to share her work with the Club.

Dr. Walker shared an interesting story of how she became involved in noise pollution research - noisy upstairs neighbor in her apartment building.  From that start, she began research as a public health issue and studied what are the characteristics of noise - something that one both hears and feels that impacts one's health.

Dr. Walker then discussed the metics and regulatory policies regarding noice and shared her study of Sound Levels vs. Noise Perception in Boston.

Starting with an Academic Approach to the issue that did not resolve problems, Dr. Walker transitioned to a Commuity-Centered Approach before settling on a Ride-Sharing approach - you will need to watch the presentation to to fully understand this approach, which is a very creative approach to the issue of noise pollution.

Throughout the presentation, Dr. Walker shared numerous case studies with successes and failures, resources, and other information, which are included in the video and PowerPoint.  Click here for the PowerPoint.
