During the presentation, D.A. O'Malley focused on
  • The population being trafficking (83% are U.S. citizens)
  • The nation and California hotspots for human trafficking
  • The causes of human trafficking
  • The profile of victims, especialy child victims, and they are recruited
  • The patterns of human trafficking in Alameda County
  • How Alameda County is responding to human trafficking with a variety of initiaves and programs
The key program is Human Exploitation and Trafficking (H.E.A.T.), which has a five-prong approach:
  • Training law Enforcement
  • Prosecute
  • Non-governmenetal Advocacy & Services
  • Policy & Resource Development
  • Community Education, Partnership and Engagement.

The Rotary Foundation (TRF)
Orrin Mahoney, District 5170 TRF Chair & Past District Goveror
The Mission Statement of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. In other words, The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is the charitable funding vehicle for much of the work of Rotary.
 
Orrin focused his presentation on what TRF activities around the world to implment the Mission of Rotary International and the impact that these efforts are having.  The Club's Breathing for Life (BFL) Project was mentioned as the largest Global Grant in District 5170. While Orrin's presentation was short (15 minutes), it was very informative and tied together all aspects of TRF's work.  Use the link below to understand the scope and impact of Rotary's work.   • Carol Bigelow announced that H.A.R.D. will not hold its Annual Thanksgiving Lunch at the Senior Center this year due to COVID-19; however, H.A.R.D plans to hold a drive through Senior Goodie Bag Giveaway on November 19.  Carol will need 4-5 volunteers to help with the event.  Please contact Carol if you are interested in helping.  More information at future meetings.
