Club Donates Backpacks to Students
Students may be beginning school this year online, but they will still need many of the same materials. So Club members and family members gathered on Sunday morning, August 9, with face masks and gloves at Direct Sales Carpet One and assembled backpacks with pens, erasers, glue sticks, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, a binder, a folder, and a colorful highlighter. The pandemic caused two new items to be included this year: hand sanitizer and a face mask!

For the past seven years, Dr. Heidi Hausauer has made an annual trip to “get the best bargains” purchasing backpacks and supplies, but had to do it all online this year.  This did not hinder the Club’s enthusiasm of the backpack project!

The backpacks will go to students who need them at Castro Valley Unified School District and Redwood Christian School. “This is a tough year for everyone,” said Rotary President Gary Howard. “We are happy to be able to make it a little easier for some students who need a little help.”
