Lisa Carmack,Community Manager at the Castro Valley Marketplace, described its soft opening on July 9th and plans going forward as more businesses open in the Marketplace.  During Lisa’s presentation, members chimed in about the quality of the food at Castro Valley Marketplace, especially the croissants at Seven Hills Bakery and the selection of cheeses at Castro Valley Natural Grocery, which has a cheese expert on staff.
After many years waiting and delays, the Castro Valley Marketplace finally opened on July 9 in the former Daughtery's Building, which had been vacant since the early 1990’s.  (Click here to read a history of the project written by Castro Valley Matters.)

Currently open are Baron’s Quality Meats & Seafood, Castro Valley Natural Grocery, and, Seven Hills Bakery.  Opening soon will be Akemi Sushi, Amphora Natural Olive Oil Works, Cannery Kitchen & Tap, Cordial Cellar + Lounge, FARMcurious, Lab 2000, Night Owl, Oaktown Spice Shop, and, Pop Out Kitchen.  Click here to read more about each business.
 
Once shelter in place is over, the Club is looking to hold a Mixer at the Castro Valley Marketplace.
 
Lisa Carmack also works with Castro Valley Today, a resource created with a passion for Castro Valley.  The team is comprised of Castro Valley locals, friends, PTA members, and business owners who saw the strength of the community apart and wanted to bring it all together in one place.

Member Moment:  Carol Wikle
Carol Wikle has been a Rotarian since 1994 and a member of the Rotary Club of Castro Valley since 2000.  Carol served as Club President in 2016-2017.  She is a partner in Mirador Capital about  which you can learn more by clicking on the below. 
 
Carol began her Member Moment by connecting to the recent Racial Discrimination Forum and sharing her Hispanic background, which goes back to a Spanish land grant outside of San Antonio that her family received in 1800's.  With great emotion, Carol shared the impact that her family and faith has had on her life.
