PROGRAM - Today’s speaker was introduced by February Program Chair, Hafsa Burt.  The there for this month is “Story Telling Month” and our first speaker this month was Larry Jacobson, Award Winning Author and authority on Navigating Leadership for Entrepreneurs.
‘When it comes to overcoming tough challenges, award-winning author Larry Jacobson hasn’t just been around the block.  He’s been around the world.’
During his six years circumnavigating the globe after departing corporate shores, Larry accumulated priceless and hard-won souvenirs — new insights on how to master your fears and limitations, persevere through the inevitable storms on the way to success, and live out your childhood dreams against all odds.
Larry’s dynamic recounting of his incredible experiences and the lessons he’s drawn from them shine a navigational beacon of inspiration for anyone who’s ever aspired to achieve great things in business or in life.
Today he focused on facing FEAR, including his being chased by Korona Dragons, being attacked by Pirates, and sailing a boat through thirty feet every three seconds of a storm while in the Red Sea!  He clearly stated he was not scared - he was terrified by his Red Sea experience!
Although he showed a couple of videos, his presentation focused on Fear and whether or not you choose to “Fight or Flight” from it.
He stated that FEAR
•    Is nature’s way of making you focus on the task at hand
•    Sharpens your senses
•    Makes your more alert and
•    Can be used to your advantage
“Leadership is managing your fear and taking risks.”  His greatest fear was sailing under the Golden Gate for his six-year adventure knowing he was responsible for the entire trip and his crew.  He took his trip after leaving an established twenty-year career watching his income drop to $0 leaving his security (friends, car in driveway, etc), home and family, and his successful identity.
He decided at sixteen what his passion was - to sail around the world . . . he committed himself to his passion after school and on weekends.
Larry challenged us to know what our passion truly is and to commit to making it a reality.
His Navigating Leadership style was to:
•    Manage his fears
•    Took risks as necessary
•    Inspiring others with passion
His story has been recorded in his book . . . information about the book and learning more about this true adventurer is available on his website at http://www.larryjacobson.com/
