REMINDER FROM PAST PRESIDENT BERNIE
All Past Presidents are requested to attend a project selection committee meeting at Bernie’s office on the corner of James Avenue and Redwood Road, 19244 Redwood Road at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29. And congratulations to Roland Williams and Carol Wikle for their selection to be on our Project Selection Committee!
OPENING
President Richard Short greeted everyone and asked Kevin Forkner to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Bruce Johnson asking thanks for each other and for all we have, asking the Lord’s Blessing on our meal and fellowship, remembering those who serve overseas and at home to protect the freedoms we enjoy.
SONG FOR THE DAY
Ceta grabbed Bruce to help her lead us in “When You’re Smiling” (she has now learned her lesson re Bruce’s singing talents :-).

Alex Matteucci sent her heart-felt thank yous via Beth Moore for everyone’s support of the Joseph Matteucci Golf Tournament which was held yesterday, August 27. The event was a tremendous success!
Dwight Perry thanked all who came to the Castro Valley Rotary BBQ last Tuesday, with special thanks to those who worked so hard to make it happen, including Mark Wodyka, John Aufdenmauer, and Cliff Sherwood. PROGRAM
Holly Mortimer introduced today’s speaker, Pia Elvina, a member of the Hayward Jaycees, who shared the history of the JayCees dating back to their founding in the 1920's. There are now 40 chapters in California and over 2000 nationwide! Bay Area Chapters include San Jose, Cupertino and Walnut Creek. Many famous people have been members, including NBA legend Larry Bird! The Hayward Jaycees currently have ten members and when they reach twenty, they can be chartered. Membership is open to everyone, provided they are between the 20 and 40 years of age. The Hayward Chapter meets twice a month, one social and one planning meeting. They have been involved with the American Cancer Society and the San Francisco Zoo cleanup Day!
