PROGRAM
Al West and Carol Wikle shared the vision and procedures used by the CV Foundation, founded in 1988 to provide scholarships to deserving youth who graduate from Castro Valley High School. Al West shared that the CV Foundation was established as a 501(c)3, with all gifts tax-deductible with approximately $7,500 awarded each year to graduates of CV High School. All CV Rotarians are part of the CV Foundation supporters and the officers are members of CV Rotary, including CFO Owen Smith, Secretary Al West and Treasurer Tim McKinney. This year we have received four applicants. Board members are elected every two years. Currently there are $111,000 in the Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to applicants based upon a number of criteria, including family income not exceeding $60,000, strong academics and good conduct and community service. Scholarships are awarded to students entering colleges, universities and career training opportunities. Carol Wikle shared that when she took over managing the CV Foundation in 2003, she reviewed the objectives, spending policy and other Foundation guidelines. Since receiving $104,000 in 2003, the Foundation has awarded approximately $37,500 in scholarships and now totals approximately $111,000.
