On Saturday, May 13,
2006, the Interact Clubs of District 5170 presented A Taste of Pangea,
held at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts.
WHAT IS INTERACT? Interact is a high school service
club that fosters leadership and
responsible citizenship in students, and promotes international
understand and peace. Interact stands for International Action
and is sponsored by Rotary International. Rotary provides
guidance and inspiration, although the Interact clubs govern and
support themselves.
Each year, our Interact District 5170 completes at least one community service project and one international project which furthers global understanding and goodwill. Interact's 5 primary avenues of service include community, international, school, environmental, and fund raising. Interactors develop a worldwide network of friendships through exchanges with local and overseas clubs. There are almost 200,000 Interact members worldwide participating in more than 8,600 Interact clubs in over 110 countries. Interact District 5170 supported Pump Aid for this year's international project. Interact members from Arroyo High School, Castro Valley High School, Hayward High School, and San Leandro High School participated. 100% of this event's proceeds were sent to Pump Aid, which will in turn use it to build fresh-water pumps in Africa. WHAT IS PUMP AID? Pump Aid is an organization based
in Great Britain that works with poor
communities in rural Africa to provide sources of fresh water for those
who do not have it. One pump costs $350 and serves a community of
500 people. It is easy to maintain and use.
